Camp Activities

Camp Lake Stephens offers a variety of exciting daily activities! Individual campers may participate in 2 interest groups. Campers also participate in family group, total group, and special event activities each day. Fun and safety are always the top priorities. Some of our activities are listed below:

Interest Group Activities

Archery offers the campers the opportunity to learn the proper way to shoot a bow and arrow in a safe and controlled environment. Archery instruction includes lots of practice time PLUS games, creative competitions, and an exciting archery tournament.

Arts and Crafts are always a favorite of our campers. They work on a variety of projects including pottery, painting, lanyard, nature crafts, tie-dyeing, painting, and woodworking. Campers have a chance to showcase their creativity, and have great camp souvenirs to take home!

Canoeing is a relaxing float on the lake, or a frenzied dash around the racecourse. The canoeing interest group is taught by experienced boatmen/lifeguards who teach the proper techniques of steering and maneuvering a canoe around the lake. Canoeing highlights include an obstacle canoe course and racing competitions.

Swimming is a more than just an escape from the summer heat. Lifeguards teach non-swimming campers the basics of swimming in a calm, controlled environment.

Ultimate Frisbee is for those interested in team sports in a camp setting. Counselors lead this fast paced football-like Frisbee adventure game which is a favorite with our campers. Sometimes a change of pace is made and the campers compete in a camp wide game of Frisbee golf.

Fishing explores the banks of Lake Stephens in great detail. The lake is filled with many fish ready for the catching. This interest group includes a fishing rodeo with awards given in different categories. Campers who wish to fish are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own fishing equipment.

High Ropes offers sky-high adventures! Jr. High campers walk above the trees on special high wires. The course includes a 235 ft Zip Line that zooms over a small ravine, and a 40 ft "V Swing" that launches campers into the wild blue yonder! Highly trained accredited instructors teach this group. All campers are well instructed in safety measures and equipment. Safety is our top priority!

Low Ropes offers the same fun and adventure a little closer to the ground! Campers work through a series of low ropes games, including Jacob's ladder, Nitro Crossing, and Help From Higher Up. Trust falls, logic activities, and cooperative games round out the week. The low ropes interest group is a challenging and exciting exercise in teamwork.

Rappelling/Rock wall allows campers the opportunity to scale or descend from our 35-foot tower. The Rappelling tower provides both freefall and wall descent routes. The climbing wall offers different paths to the top, providing fun challenges for campers of all ability levels. All climbers/ rappellers are on belay constantly (hooked up to a safety system).

Survival gives campers a chance to learn exciting wilderness survival skills. Campers are taught to build a fire, construct an emergency shelter out of natural materials, identify dangerous and edible plants, and cook outdoors. These and other pioneering skills are used while exploring some of the less traveled trails at Camp Lake Stephens.

Tennis offers kids of varying skill level the chance to become a tennis superstar! Instructions on serving, volleying, correct hand positions, movement during doubles play, and backhand shots are covered. Campers interested in tennis are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own racquet.

Family Group Activities

Family groups are made up of 2 cabins (usually one male and one female). The family groups spend time together every day, participating in different activities. These include picnics, nature hikes, small group games, trips to the creek and "waterfell", and other small group activities. The highlight of the week is an overnight campout. Each family group prepares a campsite, gathers firewood, and cooks a meal with new friends. Family Group time is a great opportunity to get to know old friends, and make new ones!

Total Group Activities

Each evening, the entire camp participates in total group activities. These include hayrides, bonfires, luaus, talent shows, field games, Mission Impossible games, pool night, and more! Total group activities take place in the pavilion, by the lake, in the athletic field, or all over camp!
